Shire of Ashburton launches Strategic Community Plan 2022-2032

The Strategic Community Plan aims to bring further opportunities to the Ashburton community.

The development of the plan is based on community feedback, responses and concepts identified and discussed during concentrated community engagement last year.

The data collection process involved conducting surveys (in-person and online) at numerous community events, including Nameless Festival, Passion of the Pilbara, and Robe River Rodeo.

Complimentary to the results of the initial surveys, focus groups were hosted in each town. These sessions allowed residents to discuss key issues that had been identified during the survey process.

Shire of Ashburton President Kerry White thanked the community for their contribution to the Plan and expressed the importance of the document.

“Thank you to the local community for your ongoing input, and to our key partners for their continued support. Your responses provided valuable insight into the vision for the future of the district,” she said.

“During the development of the Strategic Community Plan, we have recognised our progress and identified the need to ensure the Shire has the resource capacity maintain and improve our infrastructure and current levels of services to community.”

From this, the Shire has identified four strategic objectives:

  • We will support opportunities for the community to be safe, socially active, and connected;
  • We will provide sustainable, purposeful, and valued built and natural environment opportunities for the community;
  • We will advocate and drive opportunities for the community to be economically desirable, resilient, and prosperous; and
  • We will lead the organisation, and create the culture, to deliver demonstrated performance excellence to the community.

Our Strategic Community Plan is available from our website at and from any of our administration centres.
