Celebrating Creativity Across the Shire of Ashburton

The Shire of Ashburton's Arts Strategy 2024–2027 is a dynamic action plan designed to cultivate and showcase the rich tapestry of artistic expression within our communities. As part of the overarching 'My Pilbara Home' Community Development Strategy, this initiative celebrates the vital role of arts in fostering a sense of belonging, connection, and inclusiveness.

Our approach embraces the diverse forms of art that thrive across our towns, whether it’s the vibrant murals in Onslow and Pannawonica, or the collaborative projects at the Tom Price Arts Hub. These endeavours not only highlight local talent but also attract cultural tourism, enriching our regional identity.

Our flagship event is the Ashburton Art Awards held in August each year, and open to all residents of the Shire. Contact the Community Development team to learn more  (Jenn wants to advertise this early next year to allow people time to create entries)

This strategy aims to:

  • Support and Promote Local Talent: Nurturing home-grown artists and providing platforms for their work to be celebrated.
  • Enhance Cultural Experiences: Developing a cohesive arts trail that links various artistic expressions across the Shire.
  • Foster Community Engagement: Encouraging active participation in arts initiatives, from workshops to public art installations.
  • Attract Cultural Tourism: Positioning the Shire as a destination for arts and culture enthusiasts.

Through collaboration with local artists, community groups, and cultural organisations, the Arts Strategy seeks to weave creativity into daily life, ensuring that art remains accessible, relevant and reflective of our unique Pilbara heritage.
