Round two of Community Support Grants now open

Community groups, local not-for-profit organisations and sporting clubs are encouraged to apply for funding as the second round of the Shire of Ashburton Community Services Grants program opens for applications.

Shire President Kerry White praised the initiative as being an ideal way to boost funds for local groups and advised those eligible groups within the Shire to take advantage of potential grants on offer.

“We received 22 applications in round one of the 2019/20 grants program, of which 15 received funding to the value of $32,100 dollars” said Councillor White.

“Applicants can apply more than once each financial year as long as the total amount is less than $2,500. This includes cash and in kind support such as donated venue hire.

“Community and sporting groups, and local not-for-profit organisations have a positive impact and make a huge contribution to the livability of our towns and the wellbeing of our community members.

“Previous recipients of the community funding initiative include Pannawonica Playgroup, Tom Price Pony and Horse club Inc., Paraburdoo Bowling Club, Onslow Occy's Swimming Club and Tom Price Drive In.

“The grants are competitive and decisions to fund part or all of a request are based on the extent to which the project directly benefits Ashburton residents and other funding sources available to that project.

“In addition to the Community Support Grants, we offer Small Assistance Donations for up to $500 per financial year.

“To date we have donated close to $6200 to community groups to assist with travel to regional sporting events, venue hire for functions and new sporting equipment.

“This has allowed Paraburdoo Saints Cricket Club to purchase new safety helmets, signage for Paraburdoo Toy Library and assist with travel costs for our local sporting heroes to participate in state championships and tournaments in Perth.

“Applications can be made online at www.ashburton.wa.gov.au until 31 March 2020”.
