Launching this week, the Ashburton Tourism Champions Program aims to support tourism-focused businesses through the delivery of tailored, one to one, mentoring sessions.

This mentoring program has been created by Distinctly Tourism Management and the Shire of Ashburton with tourism-based businesses within Ashburton in mind.

Shire President Kerry White said she was delighted to see the program get underway.

“As part of the Shire’s Strategic Community Plan 2017-2027, we have a commitment to diversify our economic prosperity through well-managed and sustainable tourism activities” said Councillor White.

“This program supports our local suppliers to create a vibrant community of tourism while assisting them to build a better understanding of how to deliver unique tourist experiences and expanding their marketing capabilities.

“Distinctly Tourism Management (DTM) have a significant track record in assisting tourism businesses to create sustainable tourism experiences and in connecting them to the travel industry and I am delighted that our local businesses will be able to take advantage of their knowledge and expertise.

“A similar program was also recently hosted by Shire of Ashburton that saw visitor centres from across the Pilbara and surrounding regions participate in a tailored workshop that focused on how visitor centres can play a vital role as hubs where tourist and holiday packages can be bought, either online or in store.

“We are committed to developing a stronger tourism destination appeal for Ashburton and the Pilbara.

“The Ashburton Tourism Champion Program aligns with the outcomes of the Pilbara Tourism Association’s (PTA) Marketing Masterclasses Project held late last year.

“Tourism WA, Australia’s North West and Qantas are also working with the PTA to further develop distribution opportunities.

“The Ashburton Tourism Champion Program is aimed at supporting established businesses to be able to participate in these online, intrastate and international tourism trade distribution marketing initiatives.

“I am calling on tour operators, accommodation businesses, galleries and attractions to get involved and take advantage of this opportunity to learn from expert advice on how to grow your marketing capability, connect and form industry partnerships and build tourism awareness”.

“This program is fully funded by the Shire of Ashburton, but places are limited and only open to those who currently own, operate or manage a tourism business in the Shire”.

Expression of Interest submissions are open until 8pm, Sunday 1 March 2020.Application forms can be found at www.ashburton.wa.gov.au or for more information, email [email protected] or [email protected].
