The Pilbara Regional Biosecurity Group Inc. is advising residents and travellers to our region that a community aerial and ground baiting program (using 1080 meat baits) to control wild dogs will be carried out by pastoralists on pastoral leases during September 2020.
It is also advised to treat all pastoral land as containing toxic baits all year round and to take care when working within, or visiting these areas.
As all roads in this region pass through pastoral leases, domestic pets should be kept close and under control at all times, preferably on-leash and close to the road to avoid the poison meat baits.
1080 baiting is an integral part of the wild dog pest management program undertaken to protect livestock from death and injury caused by wild dogs.
Unfortunately, there is no antidote for 1080 if poisoning of domestic pets does occur.
