Update on Tom Price projects following Pindan announcement

The Shire of Ashburton is disappointed with the recent announcement of Pindan’s placement into External Administration.

Pindan were appointed as preferred contractor to build and design two much anticipated projects in Tom Price.

Both Tom Price Childcare Centre and the Emergency Services Precinct are now on hold as we await official communication from the External Administrators.

To date approximately $500,000 has been paid to Pindan since works got underway in April this year with Pindan having completed initial site works. A sod-turning event was held in April however construction of either premise has not yet commenced. We are aware that materials have been ordered from other suppliers.

Shire of Ashburton President Kerry White said she was saddened that the community would now have to wait to see these projects come to fruition in Tom Price. The Shire is currently working to understand the impact on the project timeline and is estimating it may be up to 12 months.

“While we wait confirmation of next steps from Ernst and Young, the Shire is considering if there alternative options that can be put into place on an interim basis to accommodate the childcare centre and will continue to work with Rio Tinto and Nintirri Centre as the appointed operator of the childcare centre.

“Similarly, we will collaborate with DFES towards alternative arrangements for the shared emergency services facility.

“The Shire has been working with funding partner Rio Tinto to actualise the $6.75M Tom Price Childcare Project and in tandem working with Rio Tinto and DFES in progressing the adjacent $4M Emergency Services Precinct”.
