Louise Pratt, Senator for Western Australia, joined the Tom Price community today to celebrate the opening the Community Hall following extensive refurbishment.
This opening also marks the completion of two other projects in the Shire – the refurbishment of the Library Precinct and Ashburton Hall in Paraburdoo; and the Onslow Community Safety Project.
Gary Gray, Parliamentary Secretary for Western and Northern Australia, said the Rudd Labor Government provided $520,000 to the Shire of Ashburton from the $1 billion Regional and Local Community Infrastructure Program (RLCIP). Of this $200,000 went to the $420,000 Community Centre and Library project.
“The RLCIP is a key part of our Economic Stimulus Plan delivering local jobs in communities across Australia by building infrastructure for the long term,” Mr Gary said.
“Importantly, during construction 20 people were employed, providing a boost to the local economy.
“It is a pleasure to be here in Tom Price today to celebrate the completion of these projects,” Senator Pratt said.
“The project has included replacement of the verandah roof, new flooring in the main hall and improved kitchen facilities.
“This is great news for the 250 patrons the centre caters for, with new facilities community events, concerts, weddings, and meetings,” Senator Pratt said.
Mr Gray said in partnership with every council in the country the Australian Government is delivering more than 4,900 small and larger scale building projects like these, including new and refurbished public libraries, sporting facilities, parks and playgrounds, and child care centres.
“In fact, we are making the single largest federal investment in community infrastructure through the RLCIP.
Mr Gray and Senator Pratt congratulated the Shire of Ashburton and the community for helping deliver these three projects, and helping to build a stronger region for the future.
