Tom Price Bushfire update #2

Published on Tuesday, 9 November 2021 at 5:34:25 PM

DFES, supported by Shire of Ashburton, WAPOL, DBCA, Main Roads WA, and Rio Tinto, are continuing asset protection with a major burn around Tom Price this evening.

Residents are advised that it is normal to experience significant smoke and to see flames during this time.

Earlier this afternoon, aircraft observed that the fire has covered 3600 hectares, crossing both sides of Karijini Drive and Tom Price - Paraburdoo Road.

Due to the extent of the fire activity, an earlier start to the back burn was recommended and commenced at 2pm from the Mountain View Sporting Club, with one crew heading northeast and another crew heading south to line up with Paraburdoo Road.

DFES are confident that their early action has mitigated the threat of the fire reaching the town of Tom Price.

The fire will continue to be monitored and asset protection burns continue to ensure community safety.

Community members with respiratory concerns are advised to remain indoors, keep windows and doors closed.
