Proudly supported by Bechtel

The Shire of Ashburton with sponsorship from Bechtel organised the Great Northern Clean Up on Sunday 22 September 2013 in Onslow, with twenty one community members participating. Thanks to Mick Little from Bechtel, who supplied the bottled water, the yummy BBQ and a ute to pick up the rubbish. And thank you to Mike Edwards from Safeman for supplying the gloves for the day.

The Great Northern Clean Up is part of the Clean Up Australia initiative, which provides an opportunity for communities in the northern parts of Australia to participate in the Clean Up Australia experience at a time of year more suitable to the tropical climate.

Our small group of workers did not hamper the huge effort in cleaning up a ute load (and more) of rubbish. The group, armed with bags, gloves and water started at the Beedon Bay Groin and worked their way along the beach and dunes to the boat ramp on Onslow's Front Beach.

A small break in the rubbish collecting, gave us an opportunity to have sack races in the sand with the kids and some of the parents. Loads of fun! Then back to collecting rubbish and returning to the Onslow Community Garden where the group was treated to a BBQ and salads.
