The Shire of Ashburton, in partnership with the Chevron-operated Wheatstone Project and the Department of State Development, is excited to announce the tender to design and construct the Onslow Aquatic Centre has been awarded to Western Australian company Pindan Contracting.
The successful tender was endorsed at the March Ordinary Meeting of Council, and the project will now move into the construction phase.
Shire of Ashburton President Kerry White said the Shire looks forward to working with Pindan Contracting to bring this highly anticipated infrastructure project to completion.
“We have appointed an experienced Western Australian company familiar with Onslow to undertake construction,” Cr White said. “Onslow is one step closer to having a local swimming pool and over the coming months residents will begin to see activity on site.”
Wheatstone Project Deputy Director Duke Snyder said the Aquatic Centre is an important piece of local infrastructure for the town.
“The Aquatic Centre will add to local amenity and provide an additional avenue for social and recreational activities,” Mr Snyder said.
The Onslow Aquatic Centre will be located on McRae Avenue, next to Onslow Primary School and will feature a 25 metre, six lane swimming pool with a shallow beach entry and free-form area, shade sails, kiosk, change rooms and a first aid room.
The new aquatic facility is one of numerous community projects being delivered as part of a long term partnership between the Shire of Ashburton and the Chevron-operated Wheatstone project. The partnership aims to improve the liveability of Onslow through the delivery of new and upgraded community facilities and services.
