Onslow will once again host the highly contested basketball carnival, where teams from all over the North West battle it out for the top spot.  For many years now the Shire and Thalanyji have jointly managed the successful and highly regarded Annual Onslow Basketball Competition. This year is no different and the Shire is working with Thalanyji to again coordinate and prepare for this important event on the social and sporting calendar.Being held over the weekend of 26 and 27 August, teams will take part in two days of great fun and competition.   With some of WA’s best basketball and sporting champions in town for the carnival, players and spectators will be able to mix with these elite athletes in a variety of workshops and community activities.

The Onslow Basketball Carnival is coordinated through the joint collaboration of the Buurabalayji Thalanyji Aboriginal Corporation and the Shire of Ashburton, with the weekend aimed at promoting great sportsmanship and healthy lifestyle.

Each year the carnival gets bigger with players and their families enjoying the competition, the coaching clinics and the community fun. The 2017 Onslow Basketball Carnival will continue to provide much more than just a sporting event, with plenty of action on and off the court.
