Swimming, soccer, netball and Jiu Jitsu were among the sports highlighted at the recent Active Ashburton Sports Star Awards 2019.

A feature on the sporting calendar for our region, the Active Ashburton Sports Star Awards are presented by the Shire of Ashburton and Rio Tinto through the Community Infrastructure and Services Partnership, with support from the Department of Local Government Sport and Cultural Industries.

Shire of Ashburton President Kerry White said that she looks forward to these awards each year and recognises the importance of sport in our community.

“The Active Ashburton Awards acknowledge the athletic achievements of our community members young and old,” said Cr White.

“They also highlight the importance of sports groups, clubs and associations in our remote location in providing a social and competitive outlet for so many residents, and the passion of the volunteers and committees that run them.

“A large number of nominations for each category were received and I would like to extend my congratulations to all nominees and winners and wish you all the best for the coming year”.
