In 2011 land located on the North-Eastern side of the Tom Price-Paraburdoo Road and Karijini intersection was being considered as a suitable location for an RFDS airstrip, however a public submission was made for an alternative use of this lot, hence the area became unviable. Since then, the Shire have pursued a number of other locations, none of which have proven successful. The original lot on the corner of Karijini Drive, which is an old landing strip, has again become available with the previous private development submission never proceeding.
At October’s Council meeting it was recommended that the Shire make further investigations to determine if additional land is required outside of the existing lot boundary to meet the Royal Flying Doctor Service’s requirements, and to obtain in principle support from the Department of Planning, Lands and Heritage. An updated report will be presented to Council in the coming months.
