The Shire of Ashburton will manage Ocean View Caravan Park in the future.

It was decided at the July 2012 Council meeting that the Shire reclaim the leasehold for the Ocean View Caravan Park following a request for early termination by current lessee, Peter Adams. The changeover will take effect on 3 September 2012.

“The Shire will do everything possible to provide upgrades and maximise the park’s potential while continuing to support the tourism industry,” said Shire President Kerry White.

“Local Government has successfully managed caravan parks all over the country, and the Shire intends to develop and build on this valuable asset,” she said.

“Business for the park will continue as usual while plans for redevelopment and upgrade are in progress, which effectively will provide opportunity to local business in future.”

Some tourists have been visiting Onslow regularly for over 20 years, adding value to the community, supporting local business and engaging in local activities.

“The annual tourists are extremely important to the fabric and diversity of this town, and we will continue to encourage and support this,” said Cr White.

“It’s what has sustained this town for many years and we are committed to ensuring that opportunity for the tourist industry continues.”

“We want to ensure that both construction and tourism can happen at the same time. Onslow has much to offer, and we’re determined to see that tourism continues to be a sustainable, thriving industry in the future.”
