The Shire of Ashburton has successfully secured funding through the Every Club Targeted Round Grant Scheme.

The funding through the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries will support the development and implementation of the Shire’s club development plan and assist community sports and active recreation clubs to improve their governance, planning and management practices.

Shire of Ashburton President Kerry White said she was pleased the Shire was one of the successful applicants for this funding and that the Shire could continue to ensure local clubs are supported.

“Sporting and community groups as well as volunteer associations are at the heart of each of our towns across the Shire”, acknowledged Councillor White.

“A cornerstone of remote living, clubs and community groups provide social outlets for recreation, health and wellbeing in our towns.

“Club development has been traditionally supported by Rio Tinto in our inland towns of Tom Price, Paraburdoo and Pannawonica and by the Chevron Wheatstone Project in Onslow with funding going towards community events and community capacity building.

“Identified in our Strategic Community Plan 2017-2027 is Council’s commitment to vibrant and active communities through sustainable services, clubs, associations and facilities.

“This additional funding will enable our community development team to deliver the Shire’s Development Operational Plan in each town and to almost 160 sporting organisations.

“Our Club Development Plan aims to upskill and build capacity within our Clubs and Recreation Groups and to improve their sustainability in the face of unique pressures associated with our Pilbara region and remote, transient communities.

“This year already we have hosted eight club development workshops in Tom Price and Paraburdoo and look forward to delivering these and upcoming topics across all four towns in the future”.
