Shire of Ashburton residents reminded to keep watch around the pool

As the weather heats up, Shire of Ashburton residents are reminded to watch their children around water and at their local pool.

In addition to lifeguards being on duty at all Shire pools, parents have a crucial role to play in the supervision of children while visiting these facilities.

The Shire of Ashburton adheres to the ‘Watch Around Water’ initiative from Royal Life Saving Western Australia that advises children under 5 must always be within arm’s reach of a parent or guardian.

If your child is under 10 years, constant active supervision is required for children. Parents and carers must be prepared to enter the water and maintain constant visual contact.

In line with this initiative, parents and guardians are required to attend the pool with their children and pay entry fees to our pools.

Parents that are required to enter the pool with their child who is partaking in swimming lessons can pay the normal spectator fee of $1 for entry. This is under the condition they are only in the water for the duration of the lesson.
