The Shire of Ashburton is currently playing host to 4 Wheeling Australia and renowned WA 4-wheel driving enthusiast Ronny Dahl as he travels our North West region seeking out adventure and unexplored destinations.
Shire of Ashburton President Kerry White said she was excited to have the 4 Wheeling Australia crew visit the Shire.
“This is the first time Ashburton has featured on such a show and I am looking forward to watching their experience and hearing their stories from the adventure” said Councillor White.
“The Shire has been working closely with the show to compile an itinerary that will start and finish in Onslow, will travel the Ashburton River, pass through stations along the way to Tom Price and through to Karijini, Millstream and out to the coast again.
“As 2021 looks to follow last year with travel restrictions, we are really encouraging visitors to ‘holiday here this year’ and come and saw the magnitude of what we have to offer, from the coral reefs at the islands off the coast of Onslow to the deep red earth ranges and waterholes at Karijini and Millstream Chichester National Parks.
“Last year we experienced an influx of visitors from around the state and intrastate as restrictions allowed, and with this in mind we have been working hard to create true tourism experiences and travel itineraries for future and repeat visitors”.
“Working with Ronny and the 4 Wheeling Australia Team is a new experience for the Shire and hope to reach a new audience through following Ronny on his travels and adventures, as well as his love of vehicles. 4 Wheeling Australia boasts more than 365,000 followers on youtube, plus a combined audience of close to 200,000 followers on other social media platforms.
“4 Wheeling Australia will also stream their live show from Tom Price on Sunday 18 February and local community members are encouraged to attend join the online audience of up to 15,000 people from around the world who all tune in to be part of the fun”.
“I would also like to acknowledge our community partners BHP and Rio Tinto Iron Ore, who have come together on this exciting project, with funding contributions towards making this 4 wheel-drive adventure possible”.
BHP Petroleum Australia, Acting Operations Manager, Darryl Nottingham said: “We are proud the funding we have provided via the BHP Vital Resources Fund has helped to enable this great initiative for local people and visitors alike. It will help boost the profile of this fantastic part of the State with which we have a long-standing and close relationship with.”
Jamie Robinson, Rio Tinto General Manager Tom Price said the Pilbara is known as the engine room of Australia, but it’s also home to some of the world’s most stunning ancient landscapes.
"We're proud to support this event which showcases all that this part of Australia has to offer, including local Aboriginal culture that is strongly felt throughout the Pilbara", said Jamie.
“We hope the crew’s journey inspires people to come to here for safe driving adventures that take in the vastness and significance of the region.”
