Shire of Ashburton and Pilbara Ports Strengthen Community Connections in Onslow 
 
The Shire of Ashburton is proud to announce at December’s Ordinary Meeting of Council, Council has endorsed a Partnership Agreement with Pilbara Ports for the community of Onslow, demonstrating a shared commitment to fostering vibrant, thriving communities.
 
This significant partnership will see $400,000 invested over three years into initiatives that enhance the quality of life and wellbeing of the region.
 
The funding allocation will include:
Year 1: $100,000
Year 2: $140,000
Year 3: $160,000
 
This partnership aligns with the Shire of Ashburton’s strategic priorities outlined in the My Pilbara Home Strategy 2024–2027. It is reflected in key initiatives such as the Reconciliation Action Plan, Arts Strategy, and Community Programs and Events Strategy, all of which focus on celebrating and preserving heritage, promoting social inclusion, and enhancing mental and physical well-being through arts, sports and cultural activities.
 
Shire President, Audra Smith, welcomes the agreement.
 
“This collaboration with Pilbara Ports is a fantastic opportunity to deliver community-led initiatives that bring people together, enhance our shared spaces, and protect the unique environment of our Pilbara region. Together, we aim to build a stronger sense of belonging and connection within Onslow and beyond,” she said.

Under this agreement, the Shire of Ashburton will facilitate community-led placemaking programs, working closely with Onslow stakeholders to identify and deliver projects that reflect the needs of our strategic plans to ensure the outputs are aligned with Council led initiatives.
 
This partnership highlights the collective commitment of the Shire of Ashburton and Pilbara Ports to creating a better future for the Pilbara region, where heritage and culture are respected, and communities can thrive.
