The Shire of Ashburton are continuing to press ahead with a schedule of road renewal programs during COVID-19.

Shire of Ashburton President Kerry White said that she was pleased the Shire’s road improvement program was able to progress during this time.

“Currently the Shire is progressing with $6M worth of road renewal programs, ensuring continuity and moving forward of the planned schedule of works”, acknowledged Councillor White.

“Our Ashburton Urban Roads Renewal Program annually budgets over $1.1M to maintain the quality of our urban road network.

“As part of this program, Paraburdoo residents are advised that road works and traffic management will be in place from 19 May until mid-June, as the schedule gets underway in the coming weeks

“Key roads within the town, namely Ashburton Avenue and De Grey Road, will be receiving a reseal, with traffic management in place to keep traffic flowing whilst these roads are reduced to only one lane on certain days.

“In addition to these roads, a number of residential streets will also be resealed and the residents of these streets will be advised, prior to their date of commencement, with details of how they can maintain access to their homes on that day.

“We will provide full access to all local services throughout this time and will limit any disruption to an absolute minimum. Please do take care when travelling through town at this time and please respect the instructions from our traffic management contractors as your safety is paramount.

“Roads identified in Tom Price will be resealed from late July and with those in Onslow prioritsed for 2021.

“These road works are in addition to our $2.2M Unsealed Rural Roads Project that has been ongoing and expected to conclude late August. This has included works on Twitchen Road, Towera Lyndon Road and Ashburton Downs - Meekatharra Road.

“Over $2M of sealing works will also be underway on the Pannawonica - Millstream Road mid-May which will see a sealed road to Millstream Chichester National Park and make it easier for residents and visitors to our region to visit once travel restrictions are eased.

“With these key projects, in addition to our on-going road maintenance, the Shire of Ashburton’s commitment to providing residents and visitors with a quality road network has never been stronger, despite the challenges of these difficult times.”

Currently the Shire of Ashburton is responsible for a road network of 2,655km, of which 1,860km is unsealed and 135km is sealed roads.
