Shire bids farewell to a dedicated President

The Shire of Ashburton bid a sad farewell to Shire President Greg Musgrave after his resignation yesterday.

Cr Musgrave said that while he still felt excited about the future of the Shire, it was time for a change.

“I have some more mountains to climb and oceans to swim ,” he said. “Despite this, I feel confident that the Shire is heading in the right direction under the influence of Chief Executive  Jeff Breen and I know that I will hear good things about it in the future.”

Long-time Tom Price resident Cr Musgrave moved to the town in 1999 to open Muzzy’s Mitre 10 Hardware Store.

From the beginning he used his business, and later, his position as President, to promote the growth and development of the Shire.

“I have never wavered in my belief that the towns that make up the Shire of Ashburton are first and foremost towns with mines, not mining towns,” he said.

“I have spent much of my time here working toward sustainability, community wellbeing and investment. There is still a long way to go but I feel I have done what I can to point the Shire in the right direction.”

Chief Executive Officer Jeffrey Breen said Cr Musgrave would be sorely missed. “Greg’s enthusiasm and drive to promote the interests of the Shire of Ashburton have been a great asset to us,” Mr Breen said.

“He can move on to the next stage of his life in the knowledge that he has made a real difference to the Shire.”
