ISLAND hopping in the Dampier Archipelago and exploring the ancient gorges of Karijini are just some of the once-in-a-lifetime experiences on offer for the winner of the 2015 My Pilbara Adventure competition.

Launched by the Pilbara Development Commission at the Perth Royal Show on World Tourism Day, the second instalment of the popular tourism competition promises the winner a 12-day adventure of a lifetime.

Pilbara Development Commission Chief Executive Officer Dr Ken King said the campaign provided a platform to highlight the world class natural attractions in the Pilbara on offer for visitors.

“The Pilbara has an endless array of unique natural attractions and activities that you would be hard pressed to find anywhere else in the world,” Dr King said.

2014 winner Alison Byers encouraged people to enter the competition, which has already received more than 250 entries since launching.

“I picked up a brochure at the Royal Show in 2013 and went home and entered through the website. I couldn’t believe it when my name was drawn, I never thought I’d win the major prize,” Ms Byers said.

Alison was back at the Royal Show this year, talking to patrons about her experience and encouraging them to enter.

“It was great to share my experience and get people excited about what the Pilbara has to offer.”

The currently underdeveloped Pilbara tourism industry presents a significant opportunity to expand the economic base of the region.

“Tourism has huge social, cultural and economic value as it generates local wealth, provides jobs and creates opportunities for new businesses to enter the market,” Dr King said.

The Commission’s long term commitment to developing tourism is outlined in the recently completed Pilbara Tourism Product Development Plan currently under Board review.

“Tourism will also play a critical role in the Pilbara Regional Investment Blueprint, a visionary roadmap for future growth of the region, currently under development and due for publication by the Commission early next year.”

Entries can be submitted via the website www.mypilbaraadventure.com.au, terms and conditions apply and can be read in full on the website.
