Passion of the Pilbara Festival

This year’s Passion of the Pilbara festival kicks off on Friday 16 August at the Onslow Sports Club, with a night of great music that will well and truly set the festival vibe.

With the main stage set up so the community can enjoy the newly redeveloped Sports Club, local Karratha musician Ben Mullen, the popular musical duo Bryan and Pete, and the Pilbara’s own Brad Hall band will have the crowds singing and dancing as they kick start this year’s festival.

A range of delicious food vendors will be trading and, to keep the kids happy, the amusement rides will be operating on both Friday night and Saturday.

Saturday morning brings Masterchef to Onslow, as past contestants Ben Bullock and Liliana Battle cook up a storm in the Community Garden.  With a casual vibe, plenty of opportunities to engage with the chef’s and ask questions, as well as taste testing, the morning is always a popular festival event.  Ben had so much fun at the last Passion of the Pilbara he was keen to return to Onslow and, as a resident of Port Hedland and therefore a Pilbara local, Liliana is excited to share her love of cooking with Onslow.

In addition to the morning’s Community Garden showcase, both Ben and Liliana will be hosting cooking demonstrations in the culinary pavilion throughout the afternoon.

From noon on Saturday Thalanyji Oval will once again be transformed into festival central, with plenty of stalls, activities, roving entertainers, live music, food and of course, free rides.  Entertainment will run throughout the day on the main stage with Ben Mullen, Bryan and Pete, Brad Hall and the Bad Influences, The LuLus and Smalltown performing.

Popular musician Jon Stevens, formerly from Noiseworks, will take to the stage on Saturday night in a free community concert, with a show jam-packed full of hits from the Noiseworks and INXS collection.

The Passion of the Pilbara is made possible thanks to the generous support from our festival partner, the Chevron-operated Wheatstone Project, as well as our key sponsors – BHP, Pilbara Port Authority, Onslow Beach Resort, NTC Contracting, Discovery Parks and K+S Ashburton Salt.

The Shire would also like to thank the numerous local businesses who generously provide their services and expertise in putting the festival together.
