Pannawonica transformed into a Mexican fiesta on Saturday evening as residents gathered at The Rocks for the Fiesta-val street party. Senors, senoritas and Niño’s put on their sombreros, shook their maracas and enjoyed an evening of bright and colourful revelry.
The Panna Fiesta-Val, brought together by the Shire of Ashburton and Rio Tinto’s Community Infrastructure and Services Partnership, was a celebration of community in a true street party style.
With live music by Bryan and Pete from SpinFX Audio, a hotly contested limbo competition and balloon twisting there was plenty to get everyone in the spirit of the fiesta. In addition to music and dance, the evening also had the key ingredient to a traditional fiesta – food!
The Pannawonica P&C cooked up a delicious assortment of Mexican street food and kids kept themselves well occupied with the lolly buffet, popcorn and fairy floss.
Shire President Kerry White said the Panna Fiesta-val was a really fun way to encompass everything that Pannawonica has to offer, while encouraging residents to really get to know their neighbours.
“Pannawonica is a great town with a strong sense of community spirit,” said Cr White. “Through our partnership with Rio Tinto it is wonderful to host important events such as this, which assists our residents to create new friendships and to become part of the social fabric of the town.”
Local resident and Rio Tinto Manager Maintenance and Fixed Plant, Marianne Hoareau said the Street Party was a fantastic event. “The evening had something for the whole family and was a great opportunity to connect with locals and showcase the vibrancy of the Pannawonica community”. Mrs Hoareau said Rio Tinto is proud to partner with the Shire of Ashburton to deliver such inclusive and successful events.
