The Onslow community last week kicked up their heels to mark the opening of the new Onslow Shire Complex.

The highly anticipated opening of the Onslow Shire Complex was jointly officiated on 28 October by Shire President Kerry White and Chevron Australia Managing Director Nigel Hearne.

The official opening comprised a luncheon attended by 50 guests, including members of the Onslow community, business and government representatives.

Shire President Kerry White welcomed the guests to the new integrated complex which co-locates all Council services in one building including Town Hall, Public Library, Customer Service and Council Chambers. It also houses the Wheatstone Information Centre, an interactive public information space designed to provide insights into the Chevron-operated Wheatstone Project.

“The Onslow Shire Complex will once again be the hub of the Onslow community, and we are thrilled to be able to have so many services back under the one roof,” Cr White enthused. “In particular, I would like to thank Chevron and its partners for their contribution to this vital community facility.”

The Chevron-operated Wheatstone Project committed $2 million towards the $9.5m project after the original facilities were lost due to fire in 2013, with the remaining $7.5m funded by the Shire.

Chevron Australia Managing Director Nigel Hearne said the opening of the Shire Complex is significant for Onslow with the new facility allowing improved civic service delivery for those who live and work in the town.

“Along with our Wheatstone joint venture participants, Chevron is proud to have committed more than $250 million to social and critical infrastructure in Onslow. With these improvements, the people of Onslow will share in better access to services and facilities, further contributing to the vibrancy and sustainable development of the town,” Mr Hearne said.

After the official opening earlier in the day, the Onslow community celebrated in style with around 120 locals attending the cocktail event featuring local act Kick Back Duo and Australia’s premiere tribute show, The Allstar Showstoppers.

All facilities are now open to the public.
