Onslow celebrates Christmas

Christmas well and truly came to Onslow on Sunday when the town celebrated the festive season with parades, pool parties and performances.

Residents lined the streets for the annual Christmas Parade, with floats from local business and community groups travelling through the town centre, marking the traditional start to the festivities. With a $1000 cash prize for the best float, competition was tough and a lot of effort and creativity was evident in the decorated vehicles.

After much cheering and a vibrant parade through town, Dice Solutions were deemed this year’s Best Float, winning themselves $1000 thanks to Horizon Power.

The action then turned to the Onslow Aquatic Centre where everyone cooled off, enjoyed a delicious Christmas feast and relaxed by the poolside. Santa made a special visit, much to the delight of the local kids who lined up to share their Christmas wishes.

As the sunset over the water, the vibe kicked up a notch at the Onslow Sports Club with local band SpinFXaudio and solo acoustic artist Dean Anderson entertaining the crowds into the evening.

Shire of Ashburton President Kerry White said it is always wonderful to see children and families enjoying Christmas activities together within the Shire community.

"These community events are made possible through the Shire of Ashburton's 'Working Together for Onslow' partnership with the Chevron-operated Wheatstone Project and we thank them for their ongoing support," said Cr White.

Chevron Australia Community Engagement Supervisor, Erin Glancy, said the partnership with the Shire encourages community involvement and helps to make Onslow a vibrant place to live and work.

"Living in a remote but growing town, these types of events are especially important to bring people together and help create a welcoming and inclusive community," Erin said.
