A Fire has completely destroyed the town hall, library and Shire administration offices in the Pilbara town of Onslow. The Shire of Ashburton Acting Chief Executive Frank Ludovico says the damage is extensive.
The fire started Sunday evening 13th January at around 7.30pm. Fire fighters and local Emergency Service volunteers worked together to put out the fire by midnight, however the fire re-ignited at around 3am before it was completely extinguished by 6am.
The cause of the fire is currently unknown. The site is now regarded as a crime scene while the incident is being investigated by Police.
The Staff of the Shire of Ashburton would like to thank the local Emergency Service volunteers and Police in Onslow for their extensive efforts in trying to save the offices, library and town hall. Thanks in particular to Northern Transport Company for the use of their water trucks and Bechtel staff for their help and providing their fire truck.
