The Shire of Ashburton is inviting media to join them for the official release of residential and industrial land in Tom Price.

On February 19, six industrial lots and 13 residential lots will be offered for auction with a further 24 residential lots going under the hammer on 19 March 2011.

Shire president Greg Musgrave said this was a historical moment for the Shire.

“We are about to make history with the release of private residential and industrial land after almost 40years,” Cr Musgrave said.

“This is ground-breaking news as it illustrates in true form the transformation of Tom Price as a mining town to a town with a mine”.

“Anecdotal evidence suggests the auction will be a great success, it’s the beginning of a legitimate real estate market in a town controlled primarily by the resource sector, come and witness the transformation of Tom Price.”

The shortage of private property and accommodation has been an ongoing issue in Tom Price, and these land releases are expected to attract considerable interest.

Stage One of the auction will be held:

10am Saturday, 19 of February
Community Hall, Central Road, Tom Price
