The Shire of Ashburton has officially opened the Tom Price Tennis Courts following completion of the $1.5M upgrade to the facility.

At an opening ceremony this week, the Shire handed back the courts to the Tom Price Tennis Club following a seven-month upgrade process.

Shire of Ashburton President Kerry White said she was pleased with the transformation of the tennis courts to a contemporary, fit for purpose facility.

“Council recognised the need to upgrade the previous facility that lacked space for spectators, storage and ablutions and the old courts were non-conforming with potential for injury” acknowledged Councillor White.

“As part of the upgrade, all three courts have had groundwork issues amended and have been resurfaced with synthetic courts in line with Tennis West guidelines.

“Tom Price Tennis Club and spectators can now enjoy a new clubhouse and shaded observation area as well as newly installed onsite toilet amenities and storage areas.

“I hope the new facility inspires a new generation of tennis stars and provides the community with a social and central health and wellbeing hub”.

The Shire engaged local contractor Neowest to undertake the upgrade works.
