Flood watch for the Pilbara District

Flooding may develop in the Pilbara District during the next few days due to heavy rainfall associated with a Tropical Low.

A tropical low is located to the north of the Pilbara coast and is moving southwards into the Pilbara. Heavy rainfall associated with the passage of the low is forecast during Thursday into Friday.

For the 24 hours to 9 am Friday widespread rainfall totals of 50 mm to 100 mm with isolated totals up to 150 mm are forecast in the central parts of the Pilbara District.

Catchments likely to be affected include:

  • Fortescue River
  • Ashburton River

Flood warnings are current for the De Grey River and Pilbara Coastal Rivers.

DFES advises people and communities to be aware that flooding is possible and be prepared to relocate equipment and livestock. Watch water levels. Travellers need to be aware that road conditions may be adversely affected and travel plans may need to be reconsidered. Do not drive into water of unknown depth and velocity.
