Flag-Raising Ceremony Launches NAIDOC Week

The Shire of Ashburton kicked off NAIDOC Week celebrations with an flag-raising ceremony in Tom Price yesterday.

Councilor Lisa Shields addressed those who attended before joining Joyce Drummond and Marie Nona in the raising of both the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islands flags.

A new flag pole was erected by the Shire for the ceremony and a morning tea was provided through funding received from the Indigenous Coordination Centre in South Hedland.

NAIDOC Week events in Tom Price will include an Awards Luncheon on Wednesday July 6 and a Cultural Expo on Saturday July 9. The Youth Centre will hold a ‘Youth Mob Yarn’ on Friday night.

Pannawonica will host a flag- raising ceremony on Wednesday July 6 and a fishing competition on Thursday July 7.

Paraburdoo will hold a flag-raising ceremony today.
