The Shire of Ashburton is inviting community members to provide feedback on a number of proposals to improve stormwater drainage and foreshore protection in Onslow.

Shire of Ashburton President Kerry White said the Shire has been continuing to identify areas for construction and maintenance as identified in a foreshore protection study in Onslow last year.

“A tender is being prepared that will include reshaping and relevelling three of the town’s basins to allow proper flow down through the stormwater system”, said Councillor White.

“As part of this process, a minimal number of the trees will be required to be replaced and planted in more suitable locations, along with planned irrigation and re-vegetation of the three basins.

“As part of the Foreshore Protection Works and Seawall Extension Project, a site investigation is currently underway to ensure the future design takes account of the existing conditions and complies with appropriate engineering design standards.

“As part of the seawall extension and associated works, the project will also develop beach access adjacent to Onslow Sun Chalets while extending the seawall adjacent to Anzac Memorial Park.

Draft plans for the reshaping, relevelling and landscaping works are available on the Shire website and feedback from the community is open online until 27 May 2021.
