Driving in Flood Waters

Published on Tuesday, 27 February 2018 at 12:00:00 AM

With heavy rainfall in the Pilbara and Kimberley, and potentially more expected over the next few weeks, it is important to monitor conditions and be aware of road conditions if you are planning on travelling.

Driving on roads during or after a flood is extrememly hazardous.  Roads may be damaged, bridges destroyed and communities isolated by flood water for an extended period of time.

If you approach floodwater, remember to check the depth and current before you drive into the water.  Also be aware that floodwater can contain debris, snakes, rubbish and other contaminants.

Monitor conditions.  Plan ahead.  Proceed with caution.
