Drainage works in Onslow

The Shire of Ashburton has commenced pre-cyclone works to Onslow’s labyrinth of drainage systems to better prepare the town for high rainfall events.

Activity being undertaken includes the clearing of existing drainage channels as well as realigning these channels where required, removing excess vegetation to ensure efficient water flow and landscaping changes to improve the capacity and flow of the detention basins.

The Shire will also be conducting high pressure water jetting of the Onslow stormwater drainage network to clear the system of debris and solid material that has collected over the past few years.  The contractor will be using an environmentally friendly water recycling system that reduces water usage as well as collects material to then be disposed of in a safe manner.

The stormwater outlets along the seawall structure will also be upgraded, with a more efficient system to be installed.

There will be minor traffic management plans in place throughout the duration of the works and we appreciate your patience when moving through these areas.

As part of the Shire’s long term financial planning and preventative maintenance programming, investigation into updated resources and infrastructure is currently being undertaken to ensure the town has an efficient and sustainable drainage system for future years.
