Council decision on Tom Price RFDS Airstrip

Published on Friday, 17 August 2012 at 12:00:00 AM

At the Ordinary Meeting Of Council on 15 August 2012 Council resolved not to support the recommendation;

  1. That Council authorises the Chief Executive Officer to source $4.4million capital funding for the Royal Flying Doctor Service airstrip.
  2. That should the capital funds be located then Council agree to accept the ownership responsibility of the airstrip and thereafter finance the operating costs required.

Council's reason for the decision was “it is not a local government responsibility to operate a RFDS airport.”

An alternative motion was passed by Council.

  1. Recommendation:
    Council will support the development of a RFDS airport of Tom Price owned and operated by others.
  2. Direct the CEO to lobby resource companies, state government departments, etc. to construct own and operate an RFDS air strip in Tom Price
