Construction begins for Paraburdoo Community Hub

Construction of Paraburdoo’s new Community Hub has formally commenced with the official ‘sod turning’ ceremony conducted by Hon Kyle McGinn MLC, Rio Tinto’s General Manager Paraburdoo operations Gabrielle Iwanow and Shire President Kerry White.

The Shire of Ashburton, in partnership with Rio Tinto and the State Government’s Royalties for Regions program is developing a suite of new facilities designed to meet the growing needs of the Paraburdoo community.

Shire President Kerry White said this this highly anticipated project is another step closer to its completion and residents will see the first components of the new hub take shape over the coming months.

“It is exciting to see activity begin on this important new community project, which will greatly improve the social and physical lifestyle for families living in Paraburdoo,” said Cr White.

Rio Tinto Iron Ore general manager Paraburdoo Region Gabrielle Iwanow said “We would like to congratulate the Shire of Ashburton on the commencement of construction for the Paraburdoo Community Hub. We are proud of what continues to be achieved through the Community Infrastructure and Services Partnership and wait in anticipation for the opening of what will be a vibrant new precinct for the Paraburdoo community.

CEO of Pilbara Development Commission Terry Hill said “Once complete, the new hub will activate the town centre by centralising community services, bringing a strong sense of place to Paraburdoo”.

The Paraburdoo Community Hub will include a new multipurpose sports court as well as refurbishment of the existing courts, repurposing of the current sports pavilion into the Karingal Neighbourhood Centre, a purpose built gym, pool side amenities, oval amenities, installation of a permanent softball diamond, improvements to the lesser hall and conversion of club rooms for storage.
