As the Shire of Ashburton continues to develop our future vision for Tom Price and Paraburdoo, community members are encouraged to participate in a follow up consultation based on feedback received earlier in the year on the Shire’s proposed Community Lifestyle and Infrastructure Plan (CLIP).

Shire of Ashburton President Kerry White acknowledged the at the importance of this second round of community consultation and encouraged residents of Tom Price and Paraburdoo to take part and have their views heard.

“The importance of CLIP cannot be overstated”, acknowledged Councillor White.

“It will outline how future growth and economic diversification can occur into the future up to 2035 and beyond and plan for a range of areas including economic development, the environment, infrastructure, community facilities and future land use.

“We will also use the Community Infrastructure and Lifestyle Plan as the basis for future partnership agreements including those with Rio Tinto Iron Ore and the State Government.

“Initial consultation results indicates that strong community values, family friendly towns and significant employment opportunities are what attracts and retains our residents, as well as the relaxed outdoor and laidback Pilbara lifestyle.

“The community also demonstrated a strong desire to see retail and commercial opportunities, development and further education opportunities for youth and access to improved health facilities and modern recreational amenities.

“Expansion and integration of a town centre for Tom Price with areas made available on the town periphery for housing and recreational facilities also came through the responses received.

“In this follow up consultation, we are keen to hear from our community members regarding the draft concepts that have been informed by community engagement undertaken in April.

“A series of interactive design workshops and pop-up sessions will be taking place later in July that will inform the final strategy development at which all community members are strongly encouraged to attend and participate”.
