Clean up activities post Tropical Cyclone Damien

Published on Sunday, 9 February 2020 at 12:00:00 AM

As the threat of severe winds and heavy rainfall passes, community members are reminded to take care as clean-up operations get underway.

Overnight we have received substantial rainfall and flooding in our inland towns remains our concern.

A reminder that any damage, fallen trees and flooding should be reported to the SES by phoning 132 500.

Currently we are inspecting our roads and facilities to ensure they will be safe to reopen to our community members as soon as possible.

All Shire facilities in Tom Price, Paraburdoo and Pannawonica are currently closed - this includes swimming pools, parks, ovals and playgrounds.

Our landfill facilities in Tom Price and Paraburdoo are also not open today. Tom Price Landfill will open tomorrow for green waste only (Monday 10 February).

Our Environmental Team will be carrying out mosquito minimisation activities and community members are also advised to take precaution against the potential of breeding of mosquitoes including emptying any unwanted and standing water from containers.

Please be aware that drains, floodways, creeks and river beds can fill quickly and water flow rapidly through them and community members are strongly advised to be aware of this threat and avoid drains and floodways.

The Tom Price to Paraburdoo Road is closed, as well as some of our local roads in our towns, due to flooding and large volumes of surface water. Please ensure you is important check road conditions via our road condition reports and by checking Main Roads Travel Map before undertaking any travel.

Paraburdoo Airport is currently closed and anyone due to fly in the coming days are advised to check with Qantas.

Please stay tuned to our Facebook page and website for further updates.

Residents and Businesses are to be advised that there may be hazards from damage and flooding that have not yet been identified. All persons are requested to take extreme caution in moving through the community. Please obey the direction of Emergency Services Personnel and do not proceed past closed roads.
