Shire of Ashburton community members are welcomed to celebrate Australia Day by participating in a variety of free family-friendly events and ceremonies across our district on Wednesday, January 26.

Paraburdoo residents can visit Quentin Broad Swimming Pool from 9am-12pm for a free barbecue, crafts, lawn games, entertainment from Magic Dale, a lamington eating competition and more.

Pannawonica Sporting Club will be buzzing with national pride from 4:30pm to 8pm where residents are asked to come dressed in their best Aussie attire and take part in family friendly games, water play, live music, and a movie for the kids from 7pm.

Do not miss the world-famous Regatta Race during Onslow's Family Day, held at the aquatic centre between 9am and 12pm. In addition to the Regatta Race, residents can take part in thong throwing and bombie competitions and enjoy a sausage sizzle. From 4pm onwards, locals can head to the Onslow Sports Club for a complimentary barbeque, live music and games for all ages.

In Tom Price, tuck into a complimentary Aussie breakfast at Vic Hayton Memorial Pool from 9am to 11am. With a tattoo and craft station and pool inflatables, on top of prizes for best mullet and best Aussie dress up, it’s sure to be a great morning.

Shire President Kerry White said she was thrilled to see the amazing events on offer.

“Australia Day presents a fantastic opportunity to appreciate the life we are all lucky to enjoy in the Pilbara,” said Councillor White.

“On this day we recognise the wealth of opportunities and freedoms that are available to Australians and celebrate the multicultural diversity of our peoples, which will be acknowledged in various citizenship ceremonies on the day. Through these events, we are also reminded to acknowledge and learn about our vibrant nation's past.

“In the Australian spirit of generosity, we are pleased to offer all activities free of charge. We warmly thank our community partners Chevron and Rio Tinto for their continued support in hosting the day’s celebrations.”
