Broadening critical infrastructure for the Onslow community

The Department of State Development (DSD) is proposing to widen the Onslow Road road reserve or to create easements, to enable the installation of critical infrastructure.

Shire President Kerry White said that the widening of the road reserve would facilitate the progress of a new power station and desalination plant, as well as house essential infrastructure.

“Chevron has agreed to build a new power station and desalination plant to supply new residential, light industrial and commercial developments,” said Cr White. “This infrastructure is necessary due to the Wheatstone LNG Project and the anticipated population growth in Onslow over the coming years.”

While the easements and the proposed widening of the Onslow Road reserve affects a handful of lots and reserves, it is not expected that the owners will suffer any unreasonable impact. The DSD has requested that the Shire enable the widening to occur and the easements to be put in place.

“In investigating the request, the Shire has given due consideration to all affected parties,” informed Cr White. “We have found no major adverse consequences when measured against the immense benefits to the Onslow community.

“We are continuing to work with Chevron and the DSD to ensure effective management of the proposed works and look forward to the installation of the critical infrastructure that will support our community for many years to come.”
