Shire of Ashburton CEO Jeff Breen has welcomed the release of Australia’s 2011 Census of Population and Housing data that will give an up-to-date snapshot of the Ashburton region.

The Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) will release the data on 21 June.

“Census data is vital for understanding our community and will underpin future Government planning in the Ashburton region,” Mr Breen said.

“2011 Census data will help show Government decision makers where amenities such as schools, hospitals, roads and public transport are needed most,” he said.

Mr Breen also encouraged members of the community to make use of 2011 Census data.

“From 21 June Census data will be available free on the ABS website and I encourage everyone to make use of Australia’s richest data source.

“Census data is referred to every day by a range of businesses, organisations and individuals and is a useful way to learn about the community in which we live,” Mr Breen said.
