The purpose of this program is to highlight the importance of clubs and groups, and the general community, in supporting people in times of need. This is especially important in the small remote towns of the Pilbara where mental health challenges are common, and sometimes lead to suicide. Chance Bateman, Hawthorn’s first Indigenous player to reach 100 games, the Club’s first Aboriginal life member, and its longest-serving WA recruit, will be visiting the Pilbara for Mental Health Week. He’ll share his powerful journey, including challenges with mental and physical health, overcoming racism, homesickness, and grief, as well as the importance of community in his life.
