Wild Dog Program Completed
The Shire of Ashburton advises residents and community members that the recent Wild Dog Management Program has now been completed.
The program was implemented following reports of a large wild dog entering the Tom Price townsite and surrounding areas, with reports including negative encounters and behaviour assessed as posing a risk to community safety.
In response, the Shire undertook targeted early morning and late evening patrols, monitoring activities, and risk-mitigation measures to reduce the likelihood of further incidents occurring.
The Shire thanks community members for promptly reporting sightings and supporting the program.
While this specific response program has concluded, residents are reminded that living in the Pilbara means sharing our environment with wildlife. Encounters with wild dogs, snakes, cattle, wild horses and other animals can occur, particularly as our townsites are surrounded by bushland.
Residents are always encouraged to:
•Keep your pet dogs under effective control at all times
• Exercise additional caution when walking pets, particularly during early morning and evening hours
• Avoid exercising your dog’s in or near isolated bushland areas where possible
• Report any concerns or negative encounters to the Shire of Ashburton.
The Shire will continue routine monitoring as part of our community safety program.
Thank you for your participation in ensuring the safety of others in the Shire of Ashburton.
