The Shire of Ashburton has welcomed the Western Australian Government’s announcement of an additional $60.8 million in funding for the new Tom Price Hospital, marking a significant milestone for healthcare delivery in the Pilbara.

Shire President Audra Smith said the funding commitment demonstrates strong collaboration between State Government, industry and regional communities, and provides long‑awaited certainty for the Tom Price community.

“This funding is a game‑changer for Tom Price and the surrounding region. On behalf of the Shire of Ashburton, I sincerely thank the State Government for recognising the urgent healthcare needs of our community and backing this project with meaningful investment,” President Smith said.

President Smith acknowledged the leadership of Premier Roger Cook, Minister for Regional Development Stephen Dawson, and Pilbara Minister Amber‑Jade Sanderson for their continued commitment to regional health infrastructure.

“We are extremely grateful to Premier Roger Cook and Minister Stephen Dawson for championing regional investment, and to Minister Amber‑Jade Sanderson for her advocacy for the Pilbara. Their support reflects a clear understanding of the realities faced by remote towns like Tom Price,” she said.

The Shire also extended its appreciation to Rio Tinto, whose long‑standing partnership has played a critical role in progressing the project.

“Rio Tinto’s significant contribution toward the Tom Price Hospital has been instrumental. Their ongoing support shows what meaningful partnerships between industry and community can achieve, and we thank them for standing with Tom Price,” President Smith said.

Once complete, the new Tom Price Hospital will deliver modern, purpose‑built facilities including an upgraded emergency department, inpatient services and improved access to visiting specialists, ensuring local residents can receive quality care closer to home.

“This announcement brings us closer to delivering the healthcare facilities our community deserves. The Shire looks forward to continuing to work with the State Government and project partners to see this vital facility delivered for current and future generations,” President Smith said.
