Sports Lighting Upgrade Complete at Peter Sutherland and Clem Thompson Ovals
The Shire of Ashburton is pleased to announce the completion of the sports lighting upgrades at Peter Sutherland Oval in Paraburdoo and Clem Thompson Oval in Tom Price.
The project, delivered by Byblos Construction, involved the removal of outdated lighting infrastructure and the installation of new, energy-efficient lights. The upgrades meet Australian standards, including compliance with Class V cricket requirements, ensuring brighter, safer, and more functional facilities for evening sports and recreational activities.
Shire President, Audra Smith, looks forward to these upgrades being utilised by the community.
"These upgrades are a fantastic outcome for our community. Improved lighting not only enhances safety for evening users but also supports a wider range of sports and recreational opportunities for all ages which is a huge part of both our Tom Price and Paraburdoo communities. We are grateful for the support of Rio Tinto through the Inspire Community Partnership, which makes initiatives like this possible,” she said.
Rio Tinto Iron Ore Rail, Port and Core Services Acting Managing Director Michelle Radley said: “We’re pleased to see the lighting upgrades at Clem Thompson Oval and Peter Sutherland Oval completed, creating safer, more welcoming spaces for the Tom Price and Paraburdoo communities to enjoy - both day and night.
“Sport brings people together, supports wellbeing and helps build strong, connected towns.
“Through our 10-year Inspire Community Partnership with the Shire of Ashburton, we’re proud to continue to create spaces that make a meaningful difference for local families, clubs and community groups across Tom Price, Paraburdoo and Pannawonica.”
