Following endorsement by Council at the June Ordinary Meeting, the Shire of Ashburton is pleased to announce the appointment of Keith Williams as Director Development and Regulatory Services who commenced on August 17, 2026.
Keith brings a wealth of experience from senior positions in both local government and regional development, with expertise spanning planning, building, environmental health, ranger services, emergency management and economic development.
He has a proven track record of operating within complex regulatory environments while delivering practical outcomes that support the growth and sustainability of regional communities.
Most recently, Keith served as Director Regional Development with the Kimberley Development Commission, where he worked closely with local governments, industry and community stakeholders to advance regional priorities and address challenges relating to housing, infrastructure and workforce development.
His local government experience includes senior leadership roles with the Shire of Broome, where he managed a broad development services portfolio, as well as five years as Chief Executive Officer at the Shire of Broomehill-Tambellup. Throughout his career, Keith has demonstrated strong capability in governance, compliance, risk management and service delivery across diverse regional settings.
Having lived and worked extensively throughout regional Western Australia, Keith brings a deep understanding of the opportunities and challenges facing regional communities, along with a collaborative and solutions-focused approach to leadership.
Shire of Ashburton President Audra Smith welcomes Mr Williams to the organisation and said the newly established position reflected Council's commitment to meeting the evolving needs of the Shire.

Relocating to Tom Price with wife and his two young daughters, Keith has already hit the ground running, connecting with staff, stakeholders and communities across Onslow, Paraburdoo and Tom Price, understanding the projects and communities which make the Shire of Ashburton a unique region to live and work.
