Shire of Ashburton Endorses Public Art Masterplan, Strengthening Community Identity and Sense of Place

The Shire of Ashburton is pleased to announce the formal endorsement of its Public Art Master Plan, a comprehensive framework that will guide the way public art is shaped, commissioned and celebrated across Ashburton's four towns.

The plan emphasises collaboration with artists, planners and the community to deliver works that not only enhance townsites but celebrate the stories of Ashburton’s diverse regions. It also provides opportunities for community engagement, education and prosperity through visual expression.

Shire President Audra Smith said the Master Plan sets a clear vision for how public art can enrich local towns, strengthen community identity and contribute to cultural, social and economic growth.

“Public art has the power to reflect who we are; our history, our culture, our landscapes and our communities, while creating spaces that inspire connection, pride and creativity.

“With this master plan, we are committed to fostering partnerships that bring our shared vision to life and create a lasting legacy of creativity and connection for generations to come,” said President Smith.

The Public Art Master Plan will guide future public art projects, identify priority locations for new works, and ensure that public art across the Shire is meaningful, culturally informed and reflective of the stories and landscapes that shape Ashburton.
