The Shire of Ashburton will commence a targeted Wild Dog Control Program from Monday, 16 June 2025, in and around the Paraburdoo townsite, in response to a rise in wild dog sightings and risks to community safety. This program is a necessary step to keep our residents safe and comfortable in their own community, while meeting our responsibilities under state legislation.
Led by the Shire’s Ranger Services, the program will be carried out in accordance with the Biosecurity and Agriculture Management Act 2007, which requires the management of declared pests like wild dogs.
Residents should be aware:
– Targeted patrols will be carried out during early mornings and evenings, when wild dog activity is at its peak.
– The operation will follow strict safety procedures and comply with all legal obligations.
– Residents are asked to keep pets secure and to report any wild dog sightings to Ranger Services.
– No traps or poisons will be used, the program focuses on humane, targeted control by qualified personnel.
This program builds on the success of previous ranger-led control efforts, which have proven both more effective and cost-efficient than external contractors.
Wild dog management is a long-term challenge, but with community support, the Shire aims to maintain safety and reduce future risks.
Further updates will be provided as the program continues. For inquiries or to report wild dog sightings, contact the Shire’s Ranger Services at [email protected]
