Free Japanese Encephalitis Virus Vaccines Now Available to All Pilbara Residents 📣
Residents across the Pilbara are now eligible to receive a free Japanese Encephalitis Virus (JEV) vaccine through the expanded WA Health JEV Vaccination Program.
The program has been expanded until allocated vaccine stock is exhausted or 31 October 2026, whichever comes first, and now includes:
• All Pilbara residents
• Workers for mining companies with sites in the Pilbara and Kimberley
• Travellers to the Pilbara and Kimberley regions
Japanese Encephalitis Virus is spread by mosquitoes and can cause serious illness in rare cases. While no human cases have been reported in Western Australia as of 3 June 2026, vaccination is recommended for those at increased risk of exposure.
WA Health encourages eligible community members to speak with their immunisation provider about receiving the free vaccine. For more information, including eligibility and vaccination details, click here.
