Concrete Progress Marks Major Milestone for New Tom Price Hospital
The future of healthcare in Tom Price has taken another significant step forward, with the first major concrete pour now complete at the new Tom Price Hospital site. The milestone marks an exciting stage in the delivery of the $92.8 million facility, which will provide modern healthcare services for the community for decades to come.
Backed by a $20 million contribution from Rio Tinto, the new purpose-built hospital will include a contemporary emergency department, primary care services, private consultation rooms, a four-bed inpatient ward, as well as dental and pathology services.
The project remains on track for completion in late 2027, with services at the existing Tom Price Hospital continuing uninterrupted throughout construction.
Shire of Ashburton President Audra Smith said the milestone was a welcome sign of progress for a project the Shire strongly advocated for on behalf of the community.
"This is a truly exciting milestone for Tom Price and the wider Ashburton community. The Shire advocated strongly in 2024 for investment in a new hospital, highlighting the importance of modern healthcare infrastructure to support our growing region and the people who call it home.
"To now see construction progressing and the foundations taking shape is incredibly rewarding. It transforms what was once a vision into something tangible that our community have waited for, can see coming to life. The new hospital will play an important role in supporting the health and wellbeing of residents, families, workers and visitors across our region for many years to come.
"We thank the State Government, WA Country Health Service and Rio Tinto for their commitment to delivering this important piece of community infrastructure, and we look forward to watching the project continue to progress."
With further concrete pours scheduled through to October 2026 as part of the structural build, the new Tom Price Hospital continues to move closer to reality, representing a major investment in the future of healthcare for Tom Price residents and the wider Pilbara region.
