Published on Friday, 17 July 2026 at 9:18AM

Australia's new national emergency messaging system, AusAlert, will be tested nationwide on Monday 27 July 2026 at 12:00pm AWST. The test alert will be sent to most mobile phones, as well as some smart watches and tablets across Australia.

Here's what to expect:
📅 Monday 27 July, 12:00pm AWST the test alert will be issued.
🚨 Your device will vibrate and play a siren-like warning sound for approximately 10 seconds.
🔊 The alert will sound even if your phone is on silent or "Do Not Disturb".
⚠️ A message will appear on your screen clearly stating that it is a test, displayed like the attached image.
📱 The appearance of the message may vary depending on your device and operating system.
✈️ If your phone is switched off or on aeroplane mode at the time of the test, the alert will sound once the device is switched back on or reconnects to the network.

If you do not wish to receive the alert, place your device in aeroplane mode at least one hour before the test and keep it on aeroplane mode until at least 1:00pm AWST.
